These last two are taken from Franklin Street looking north, probably almost at the same time.

According to The Hiawatha Story by Jim Scribbons, the lead locmotive, #15, on this Hiawatha was "the locomotive that sold the Milwaukee Road on Diesels". This EMD E6 was purchased in 1941 and made its first run on September 19/20 of that year. The book describes its first assignment as taking the night Fast Mail, #57 from Chicago to Minneapolis, and then returning in the morning with the Morning Hiawatha. #15 was in this service until 1949, and finally traded in in 1961. This paint scheme lasted until 1948, dating the picture to 1941-48.
