The Story Inside the Arti[fact]s
A Creative Writing Contest for Middle and Hight School Students
Students are invited to take part in a creative writing contest co-sponsored by the Winona County Historical Society and Great River Review, Inc.! Middle and high school students are invited to participate in this fun contest that fosters creative ways of approaching the understanding of history. After visiting the Winona County History Center the student will choose an artifact within the exhibits and tell the “inside” story of that object by writing a narrative at least 1500 words long. Students should consult at least three documentary sources related to the artifact and develop their narratives based on these sources, but are also encouraged to use their imagination as they try to reconstruct the stories these items from the past can tell.
