Voices From the Past: Woodlawn Cemetery WalK

DUE TO THE WEATHER THE EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE WINONA COUNTY HISTORY CENTER TODAY.

The Voices From the Past: Woodlawn Cemetery Walk has been a favorite Winona County Historical Society fundraiser for 13 years this fall! The committee has been busy planning a new cemetery walk for you this year.

Scoundrels, Scandals and Skullduggery will be the theme for 2012, highlighting stories of those with a more infamous past.

Don’t miss it!

October 13 & 14 – Voices From the Past: Woodlawn Cemetery Walk, Noon – 3 p.m.

Sponsored by

Take walk through beautiful Woodlawn Cemetery to visit with people of Winona’s past.

If you are unable to make the Walk on foot, then sign up for the Trestor Trolley Tours. The trolley will leave Woodlawn Cemetery’s front gate promptly at Noon and again at 3 p.m. each day of the walk. There is no extra cost to ride the trolley, just call 507-454-2723 ext. 0 to reserve your seat. We will start taking reservations September 24. There is no guarantee there will be seats available if you do not reserve one in advance. If you reserve a seat and cannot make it, please call to cancel, as we often have a waiting list. We kindly request that those able to walk who are attending the event with someone riding the Trolley, go with a group either before or after the Trolley Tour, so others who cannot make the Walk are able to get a seat on the Trolley Tours. Please stop at the Ticket Table before you board the Trolley.

Tickets are sold at the Cemetery front gate during the Walk. Cost is $7 adults, $5 students 13 and older, $3 children 12 and younger.

Groups are determined by ticket color and go out about every 10 -15 minutes. The last walking tour leaves at 3 p.m. just before the afternoon trolley tour. Tours last approx. 2 hours. This year we are offering more flexibility to attendees, allowing those who wish to go through the Cemetery on their own the option to do so. Group leaders will lead those who wish to through the entire Walk in order and there will be Site Managers allowing those attending in and out of the sites as not to disturb on-going performances. Site managers will offer information about the Cemetery, Winona History and area grave sites throughout the Walk.

Getting to Woodlawn Cemetery – The Cemetery is just off Highway 61 (Huff Street intersection) across from the “small” Lake Winona along the base of Winona’s beautiful bluffs. Watch for signs and parking attendants will assist you for parking.

FIENDS, SCHEMES AND BROKEN DREAMS!

This original, musical history play is a collaboration between the Winona County Historical Society and TdM and is a companion event to the annual Woodlawn Cemetery Discovery Walk!  Mirroring the Cemetery Walk theme, the production will reveal a series of actual 19th century swindles, schemes and scandals. This event will take place at the Historic Masonic Theater on October 12 & 13 at 7:30 pm and October 14 at 3:30 pm. Tickets will go on sale October 1, 2012 at the information desk, Winona History Center.  The Winona County Historical Society will receive a share of the gate proceeds from this event.  Please help support this effort by sending your tax deductible donation to: Theatre du Mississippi, PO Box 184, Winona, MN.  55987. And, can you volunteer?  We need people to help us with many theater related tasks…carpentry for set-building, addressing envelopes, ushering, ticket taking, concession sales and more!  Please call 452-3522.
