Slaggie Family Lobby Art Gallery

Apply to show your work at the Winona County History Center Slaggie Family Lobby! This beautiful space is in historic downtown Winona, Minnesota. The History Center is a vibrant community attraction for visitors and locals alike. As the Winona County Historical Society’s main museum, it houses a great gift shop, three floors of historical exhibits, a research library and archives, event spaces and more. It is also home to Visit Winona and the Art of the Rural offices. The History Center is positioned 3 blocks from Winona’s levee park and is in a hot downtown development area with upscale apartments at Main Square and the new Fastenal office building is two blocks away.
 
Along with locals and visitors coming to the History Center regularly, American Cruise Lines and other river cruise companies dock regularly at Winona bringing visitors from around the world.

More information:
  • Artwork is juried by a selection committee.
  • Shows will run approximately 6 weeks.
  • There is a week between shows for change-out.
  • Artists can exhibit together or show individually. Artwork may be paired with others for curated shows to fill the space.
  • Artists are responsible for transporting their artwork to and from the History Center.
  • Artists are encouraged to install their own work, but WCHS and RAA can help.
  • Commission rate is 35% of sales, no fee to show artwork. Commission goes to support WCHS. 
  • WCHS handles all sales.
  • WCHS and RAA work to promote each show.
  • The gallery space is monitored by live and recorded security cameras, fire and security services and staff/volunteer visitor service personnel are present during operating hours.
  • WCHS liability insurance covers artwork in the History Center (capped total).
  • Current History Center hours are daily, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • History Center is fully ADA compliant.
  • Full artist agreement is available upon request. Accepted artists are required to sign the artist agreement and provide inventory forms for each piece of art prior to their show.

​Space Planning:
The Winona County History Center’s Slaggie Family Lobby has roughly 530 sq. ft. of exhibition space. The space can be seen from above with a ceiling that reaches two stories. Gallery walls and pedestals are painted “Soft Chamois”, an off-white. Paint color will not be changed. The cases have wood bases to match the lobby floor and ceiling and are lined with a lightly padded black felt with plexi tops.
 
The gallery space uses a Walker Display system with 36 hanging hooks. Each cable hook can hold up to 20 lbs. and each cable can hold up to 50 lbs. The rail can hold up to 150 lbs. along its length. All sides of the moveable walls can be used and they can be arranged in many layouts. Hanging art must have a wire on the back. Video: How to Install a Frame Wire

  • Cases (wheeled):
    • 6 x 2 ft. with 16 in. tall plexi cover x 3
  • Built in TV monitor can be used for performance art, more information, demo video and/or “About the Artist” features. Uses Image (.jpg, .tiff) files or mp4 files. No powerpoints. Contact us for more information and file sizing.
