WCHS Volunteers

Welcome to the WCHS Volunteer Portal

As a private non-profit organization, the Winona County Historical Society would not be the thriving community driven success it is without volunteers. Community volunteers are in every area of the organization. From board members, special event committees and visitor services to tour guides, research and collection care - there are many volunteer opportunities with WCHS.

Visitor Service
Are you a people person and can multi task? The tickets and information desk at the History Center is the heart of the organization. Welcome visitors, sell tickets and merchandise from the Museum Shop, provide information and more. Due to the level of training needed, this is a long-term volunteer position.

Museum Guide
From Field Trip tours to leading an activity in the museum on a weekend. Engage with young learners from preschool to college in a variety of ways. A flexible weekday schedule and long-term commitment. Next training classes to be held in January 2022.

Museum Greeter
During our busier times during the main tourist season or for events we need some extra greeters and helpers to make the visitors' experience top notch. Welcome visitors, answer questions, give directions, and more.

Collections Assistance
Help out behind the scenes by organizing, cataloging, rehousing, and researching. Assist with the care and record keeping of our artifacts by helping with storage organization, research, documentation, cleaning and the like.

Maintenance
Help out seasonally with various light maintenance work. Changing light bulbs, painting projects, grounds clean-up, etc.

Events
Act or guide at the Cemetery Walk, take tickets for an event, help with set-up, and more!

Speakers or Class Leaders
We are always on the lookout for great speakers with a passion for local stories. Research and present a local topic for our Food For Thought lunchtime learning series, host exhibit activities or lead a craft class!

Plus More! Other opportunities come up with special projects or if you have a special skill to share, let us know.
